There is a particular disappointment people describe when they have been using AI for a few weeks. The answers are fine. They are structured, they are polite, they are plausible. They are also exactly what anyone else would have got, and that is the problem — you did not want an answer, you wanted your answer.
Almost everyone responds by writing longer prompts. That helps a little, and it costs you something every single time, because you are re-explaining your business at the top of every conversation and you will not keep it up.
What is actually missing
The model has no idea who is asking. It does not know that you run a six-person salon, that you write in short sentences, that your prices are already on your website, or that the last three things you shipped were for the same client. A colleague who knew those four things would write you a better first draft than the best prompt you will ever type.
So write them down once, in the place the tool reads before every conversation. It takes twenty minutes and it is the highest-return twenty minutes in this whole subject.
The four things worth writing
- What you do and for whom, in two lines, including the part a stranger would get wrong.
- How you write — sentence length, warm or formal, British or American spelling, the words you never use.
- What you are working on now, which changes, so say so and come back to it.
- One example of an answer you liked, which does more than three paragraphs describing one.
Keep it short on purpose
A long file is not a better file. Every extra paragraph dilutes the parts that matter and pushes the model towards an average of everything you said. Under a page. If you cannot cut it, you have not decided what you sound like yet.
The mistake almost everyone makes
They put all of it in one place. Then a reply to a supplier sounds like a reply to a customer, and the brand voice meant for the website turns up in an internal note. Who you are belongs at the profile level, where it applies everywhere. What a particular piece of work is for belongs with that work, and nowhere else.
Do that split, and the difference shows up in the first answer you ask for afterwards. That is usually the moment people stop treating this as a toy.
